Catherine Puig, direction pédagogique
Catherine Puig started to study the piano, the viola and the direction in Nîmes and Aix-en-Provence.
The viola became her principal and favourite instrument and she obtained her diploma at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Lyon with first class honours. At that moment, she was a member of the European Union Youth Orchestra and played under the direction of Claudio Abbado and Zubin Mehta. Leaving the Conservatoire, she met Jean-Claude Malgoire and started to learn more about the interpretation on period instruments. She played in some ensembles like Mosaïques or the Collegium Vocale before being a part of the Orchestre des Champs-Elysées from its creation.
From that moment, she remained faithful to this orchestra and played in many recordings under the direction of Philippe Herreweghe.
Simultaneously to her concerts activity, she got her viola teaching certificate and she is giving lessons in Paris.
Her great interest in education and her experience of the historical interpretation are leading her since 2007 in her mission as the educational leader of the Jeune Orchestre de l’Abbaye at the Abbaye aux Dames (Saintes).
She came back to the orchestra direction during 4 years with an educational project around the Opéra-comique with her students from the conservatories around Saintes. She conducted Bastien Bastienne (Mozart) in 2008, La Colombe (Gounod) in 2009, Le Tableau Parlant (Gétry) in 2010 and L’Oie du Caire (Mozart) in 2011.
