Emmanuel Balssa, cello
Cellist and gambist, Emmanuel Balssa studied the cello with Maurice Gendron, the baroque cello with Richte van der Meer and the viola de gamba with Wieland Kuijken.
Continuo of the Arts Florissants, member of the Orchestre du XVIIIe siècle, of the Bach Collegium Japan, and principal cello of the Orchestra Libera Classica (Japan), he also plays on a regular basis in chamber music concert, in particuliar with the flute player Alexis Kossenko and the pianist Remy Cardinale (L’Armée des Romantiques). He recorded « 6 sonatas for cello and continuo from Lanzetti » with Bertrand Cuiller and Alix Verzier. Emmanuel Balssa is also a member of the ensemble Orlando Gibbons.
He is teaching the baroque cello at the Conservatoire du 7e arrondissement in Paris, the viola de Gamba and the baroque cello at the Escola Superior de Musica de Catalunya in Barcelone.
