Petr Skalka, cello

Petr Skalka started to learn the cello with his father, principal cello in the West Bohemian Symphony Orchestra.He studied in the Pilsen State Conservatory from 1988 to 1993 and won its second prize. Then, he got admitted in the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis with Christophe Coin and got his diploma of early music with first class honours in 1999.

He is one of the founder members of the Café Zimmermann ( and of the Rincontro quartet. He also plays on a regular basis under the direction of Christophe Coin, Emmanuel Krivine, René Jacobs in great ensembles as La Chambre Philharmonique (principal cello), l’Ensemble Baroque de Limoges and Les Talents Lyriques.

Since 2001, he assists Christophe Coin at the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis and has been teaching the baroque cello at the Haute Ecole de Musique de Nuremberg (2011-2015).

Some of his recordings with Café Zimmermann and Rincontro got editorial awards (Diapason d’Or, Choc de l’année du Monde, Cinq étoiles de Goldberg, Classica…)
