Sophie Gent, violin

Sophie Gent is an australian violonist who first got her diploma in her country on the modern instrument. Then, she went to Holland to follow the courses of Ryo Terakado at the Royal Conservatoire Den Haag, where she finished her Master degree with the great distinction in 2005. During her studies, she created the Opera Quarta with some colleagues and the ensemble won two first prices in some international competitions as Van Wasseaer Competition (Holland) and International Premio Bonporti (Italy). Their first recording, based on J-M Leclair trio sonatas has been given a « Diapason d’Or » in July, 2007.

After her studies, Sophie Gent got rapidly numbers of concert proposal, as a soloist and a chamber musician. She has been part of many concerts, recordings and tours with first class ensembles. She is the first violon of the « Ricercar Consort » and played in european and US festival as the Boston Early Music Festival, the Montréal Baroque Festival, the Itinéraire Baroque and the Edinburgh festival…

As a solo violin, she played with some ensembles as « Masques », « Les Muffati », « Capriccio Stravagante », « Il Complesso Barocco », « The Bach Concentus » and the « Collegium Vocale Orchestra ». She is also member of « Il Gardellino » and of the string quartet « Mito Dell’Arco » based in Japan.
