This program lasts two years and includes 12 courses. It allows students to discover the specific stylistic elements particular to the classic and romantic repertoire on period instruments. The program includes:
6 courses per year with an obligatory attendance requirement (courses indicated with an [FS] on the course description list),
the possibility of having 20 hours of instrumental individual lessons and 5 hours of musicology lessons,
research work on historical styles of interpretation and on music publishing; the study of original source material, of the symphonic repertoire; the preparatory work leading to the publication of a musical work.
Admission to the program is based on an audition, and is available for a limited number of students of the following instruments: violin, viola, cello, double bass, flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon, and horn). The program is reserved for students at the end of their studies or young, professional musicians.
The trainig programme starts in September/October and ends in July two years later. Each year, the auditions take place in May. The Advanced Studies Programme is opened to strings musicians every year and to winds musicians every two years. The next recruitment for strings and winds musicians is planned in September 2008.
An evaluation takes place at the end of each year. On the successful completion of the two-year cycle, a diploma is awarded by the Centre for Advanced Studies in Music and Dance in Poitou-Charentes (CESMD).
