The Trio Fontana was born from the desire of Artem Dzeganovskyi, Sofia Ferri and Alessia Travaglini to rediscover the repertoire for violin and basso continuo of the first half of the seventeenth century, adopting philological instruments and practices.

The members of the group have specific training in early music and boast collaborations with ensembles of national and international importance including Accademia dell’Annunciata (Abbiategrasso, Italy), La Risonanza (Milan, Italy), Montis Regalis (Mondovì, Italy), Jeune Orchester de l’Abbaye (Saintes, France), La Silva (Amsterdam, The Netherlands), il Giardino di Delizie (Rome, Italy) and Astrarium Consort (Milan, Italy) and others.

With its name, the trio pays homage to the violinist Giovanni Battista Fontana, one of the greatest virtuosi of his time and today recognized among the most authoritative and original composers of the early seventeenth century who, with their work, offered an essential contribution to the development of the violinistic repertoire, expanding the expressive, technical and executive potential of this instrument.

In solidarity with Ukrainian people, Trio Fontana prepared the program “Passacaglia ucraina. Аzioni della pace” where they used the text of the prayer of the Pope Francesco for Ukraine with combination of the works of XVII century and by the modern Ukrainian composer Roman Tourovsky.
