« For two to play »
English harpsichord music for four hands

Pierre Gallon and Yoann Moulin, harpsichordists

Inspired by one of Thomas Tomkins’ plays, A Fancy for Two to Play, this programme revolves around England’s virginalist school when it was at the height of its glory. Nicholas Carlston and Gilles Farnaby were two Virginalists who wrote specifically for two harpsichords or four hands. Holborne, Fairhill, Dowland and Byrd complete this intimate excursion to the England of the beginning of the 17th century.
